Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider met Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in Dhaka. The meeting was held at the Jamaat Ameer’s residence in Bashundhara in the capital on Tuesday (September 9) evening.
The Pakistan High Commissioner was accompanied by the Mission’s Political Counselor Kamran Dhangal during the meeting. On the other hand, Jamaat’s Nayeb Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair and Ameer’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Mahmudul Hasan were present on behalf of the party.
Jamaat leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher spoke to reporters after the meeting. He said that various issues related to the mutual relations and interests of the two countries were discussed openly in the meeting. In addition, views were also exchanged on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan in the future.
He further said, “Bangladesh and Pakistan are two brotherly Muslim countries. Therefore, mutual cooperation and development of relations are important for both the countries. We have given special importance to those issues in the discussions.”
This meeting is being seen as significant in political circles. It is believed that the Pakistani diplomatic community has been interested in keeping Jamaat-e-Islami active in the main political arena of Bangladesh for a long time. In this context, such high-level meetings have created new discussions.
However, the Pakistan High Commission has not yet issued any official statement on this matter. According to political observers, the meeting can carry a new message about the importance of bilateral relations in the geopolitics of South Asia and the regional diplomatic equation.
