Former Teknaf Upazila Chairman’s Wife Sentenced to 3 Years and 6 Months in Corruption Case

A court has sentenced Amina Khatun, wife of former Teknaf Upazila Chairman Zafar Ahmed, Cox’s Bazar, to 3 years and 6 months in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of acquiring illegal assets and concealing information.

The court of Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mizanur Rahman gave the verdict today, Monday (August 25).
The convicted Amina Khatun (55) is the wife of Zafar Ahmed of North Lengur Beel area of ​​Teknaf Upazila.

According to the case documents, Amina Khatun provided false information by hiding information of assets worth Tk 26,57,734 for malicious purposes in the asset declaration submitted to the ACC. In addition, a case was filed under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act as it was proven that she acquired and possessed assets worth Tk 31,46,000 inconsistently with her known source of income.

On April 1, 2019, the then Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC, Md.  Riaz Uddin filed the case at Double Mooring Police Station in Nagar. After the investigation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court on September 1, 2021. ACC PP Advocate Mukarram Hossain said, “The court has sentenced Amina Khatun, wife of former Teknaf Upazila Chairman Zafar Ahmed, to 3 years and 6 months in prison as the charges were proven in the ACC case filed on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth and concealment of information. The illegally acquired wealth has been confiscated in favor of the state. The accused was present in the court when the verdict was announced.”
